Welcome

Dear visitor,Maira Mora, Ambassador, Head of Delegation

Welcome to the website of the Delegation of the European Union to Belarus. It offers quick access to latest EU news, information about the EU and its policies, relations with Belarus, as well as Delegation's role and activities.

The Lisbon Treaty established the post of a High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, as well as the European External Action Service which operates EU delegations in over 130 countries. I am honoured to be the first resident Ambassador of the European Union to Belarus. A diplomat's work is to use existing opportunities and find new ways to fulfil our vast potential for cooperation.

The EU supports the civil society and numerous projects in Belarus in areas such as energy, environment, food safety, regional and local development, higher education, as well as media and the social domain.

Since May 2009, the Eastern Partnership has been a cornerstone of the EU's critical dialogue with the Belarusian government. Eastern Partnership offers association agreements including deep and comprehensive free trade agreements with those countries willing and able to enter into a deeper engagement and gradual integration in the EU economy. It would also allow for easier travel to the EU through gradual visa liberalisation accompanied by measures to tackle illegal immigration. The EU applies the principle of “more for more”, i.e. more financial support and closer political cooperation and economic integration for more reform and democratisation.

Please feel free to contact the Delegation if you have any comments or questions. I also recommend to you our newsletter and profiles on Facebook and Twitter.

Sincerely,

Maira Mora

Ambassador, Head of Delegation
