Ashton asks her Special representative to visit Kyrgyzstan (09/04/2010)
High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the EuropeanCommission Catherine Ashton has today asked her Special Representative for Central Asia, PierreMorel, to travel tomorrow (10 April) to Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
The purpose of the visit is to assess the situation after the latest unrest and identify ways in whichthe EU, in cooperation with its international partners, can facilitate a peaceful, negotiated resolutionto the crisis.
Pierre Morel will coordinate closely with the local EU Presidency and Member States representedin the country, as well as with Special Representatives of the United Nations and the OSCE, whoare also travelling to Bishkek.
