Scoping Exercise

At their October 17, 2008 Summit in Quebec City, EU and Canadian leaders, having adopted the Joint Study, agreed to work together to "define the scope of a deepened economic agreement and to establish the critical points for its successful conclusion, particularly the involvement of Canada's provinces and territories and the EU Member States in areas under their competencies."

The Joint Scoping Group met three times (on November 20, December 3, 2008 and January 21-23, 2009) and engaged in substantive discussions on subjects relevant to a future comprehensive economic agreement.

The Joint Report on the EU-Canada Scoping Exercise was released on March 5, 2009, and identified fourteen areas that could be included in a future agreement.
