EU and Government of The Gambia agree to provide GMD14.6m for food crisis (11/04/2012)

The EU, in collaboration with the Government of The Gambia, agreed on Wednesday 11 April to release GMD 14.6m (€365,000) to the World Food Programme, as part of the rapid response to the food crisis in The Gambia. The funds will be used to purchase 1300 tons of food and will be focused on the country's 19 most vulnerable districts, notably the Central River Region. The funds have been allocated from the European Commission STABEX scheme (now expired), which was originally designed to compensate ACP countries for falls in export revenue.
