Basse - Vélingara road: works underway (31/07/2012)
The reconstruction of the 26km road between Basse in Upper River Region and Vélingara in Senegal is in progress. The contracting authority for the €10.5 million EU-funded project is the Gambian Ministry of Works, Construction & Infrastructure. However, half of the road is on the Senegalese side. Therefore, coordination and information exchange between the authorities of the two countries are necessary to ensure smooth implementation of the works.
The end of the works is planned during the second semester of 2013. The road will then create new possibilities for trade and transportation between the two countries and the sub-region.
