The Role of the EU Delegation
The Delegation of the European Union to Iceland is a permanent diplomatic mission and officially represents the EU in Iceland. The Delegation is one of more than 130 EU Delegations in non-EU member states around the world. The Delegation was established in January 2010, following the decision of the Icelandic government to apply for membership of the EU. Before that time the EU Delegation in Norway, was in charge of relations with Iceland.
The Delegation's main tasks are to facilitate the development of political and economic relations between the EU and Iceland, to facilitate the EU accession process of Iceland, and to inform the general public and other specific audiences, such as media representatives, social partners, non-governmental organisations, academia/think tanks and local authorities.
