Bilateral trade

The value of trade in goods between Belize and the European Union has increased from euro 146 million to euro 166 million between 2006 and 2009. In terms of total import of goods to the EU, in 2009 Belize ranked 130 as a global trade partners and 156 for exports.

Of Belizean export to the EU, sugar constituted 35 per cent followed by bananas representing 33 per cent in 2007. In terms of Belizean imports from the EU, manufactured goods constituted 82.6 per cent in 2009, 58.1 per cent of the total was machinery and transport equipment.

Belizean exports to the EU inner market is to a large extent duty free quota free as a result of the CARIFORUM – EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) that was signed in October 2008.
