Don’t fall a victim of human trafficking! (28/01/2010)
SHYMKENT, 28 January 2010 - A project helping the victims of human trafficking and promoting its prevention through the information and education campaigns started recently in Shymkent. A new initiative is implemented by the public centre of women's legal initiatives Sana Sezim with the financial contribution of the European Union.
Sana Sezim will develop a number of relevant publications and information tools, organise a wide information campaign among the youth and vulnerable groups to teach avoiding human trafficking traps and ensuring personal safety while travelling or working abroad. Legal and organisational mechanisms to combat human trafficking, including functional hotlines, will be broadly promoted and advertised.
Apart from this, the representatives of the law enforcement bodies will be educated on inspecting and preventing the cases of human trafficking. Trafficking victims will be able to obtain necessary legal or psychological assistance.
Main issues connected with human trafficking and its prevention, including an effective implementation of international law provisions in this field, will be covered in local media and discussed at information sessions with students and non-governmental organisations.
It is expected that not less than a thousand of students and young citizens will obtain basic information on human trafficking prevention and approximately the same number of trafficking victims will be granted legal aid and expert consultations.
The project will last for three years with the total EU financial contribution of more than EUR 230 000. The Polish Helsinki Foundation and a local civil society organisation "Orken Ortalygy" will join a partnership under this project.
