The European Union performs a roundtable “Direct Application of Constitutional Norms" in cooperation with the Supreme Court (19/10/2010)
ASTANA – The major assistance project of the European Union “Support to Judicial and Legal Reform in the Republic of Kazakhstan” in cooperation with the Supreme Court performs a roundtable “Direct Application of Constitutional Norms".
The roundtable is aimed at supporting Kazakhstan's judicial and legal reform. The concrete objective of this event is to deliver a basic understanding, and formulate recommendations on how to apply constitutional norms in the day-to-day decisions of judges. The roundtable will perform a comparative review of the Kazakhstani, Russian and European best practices. The Programme of the roundtable is focused on judges, the representatives of the Constitutional Council and all other relevant stakeholders.
The roundtable will be attended by an international expert team: Mrs. Tatyana Andreeva, Deputy Chairman of the Arbitration Court of the Russian Federation, Dr. Dietrich Beyer, Judge at the Supreme Court of Justice of Germany (retired), Mr. Musabek Alimbekov, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Fritz Digmayer, the project's Key Legal expert. Several representatives of the judicial system of the Republic of Kazakhstan will be attending the event as well.
The objective of the project is to assist the government of Kazakhstan in improving and strengthening the quality of the judiciary system using best European and international practices.
This project is financed by the European Union to the tune of 3.4 million Euros. The project will last from February 2010 until September 2013.
The project is implemented by an international consortium led by the Paris-based Agency for International Judicial Cooperation ACOJURIS withICON (Germany) and Louis Berger (France).
