Astana –  18 April 2012 - A roundtable will be held for representatives of disabled persons’ NGOs and government bodies.  The roundtable will be attended by 40 people representing disabled persons’ NGOs from 14 regions of Kazakhstan, Astana & Almaty cities, members of the Majilis and Senate of the Parliament, representatives of the ministries and international organizations.

This roundtable is carried out within the framework of the EU project “Provision of access to social services for people with disabilities”, which objective is to create conditions for providing citizens with an actual access to specialised social services. The roundtable is the final activity of the two-year Action that is funded by the European Union and is implemented by the Public Association of Invalids Having Higher Education “Namys”. Funding allocated by the European Union amounts to more than EUR 260,000. Partners in this Action: the Asian Society on Disabled Persons’ Rights “Zhan”, the Association of Disabled Women “Shyrak” and the Association of Legal Entities “Union of Crisis Centers of Kazakhstan”.

At the roundtable they will discuss possible solutions to the problems of disabled persons, matters concerning disabled persons’ organizations, further actions to implement and monitor “The 2012–2018 National Action Plan for long-term outlook on ensuring the rights and improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities” in the Republic of Kazakhstan, steps to be taken for ratifying the UNO’s Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities and perspectives for operation of the National Net of disabled persons’ organizations .
