Statement by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on the appointment of Lamberto Zannier to the post of the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (30/06/2011)
Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Commission Vice-President, made today the following statement:
“I warmly welcome the appointment of Lamberto Zannier to the post of the Secretary General of the OSCE.
Given his impressive record in working for international peace and security, I am confident that the choice of Ambassador Zannier will further strengthen the work of the Organization.
The EU remains fully committed to the long-standing EU-OSCE cooperation and I look forward to working with Ambassador Zannier in using the full potential of this cooperation in promoting European security and stability.
I would like to take this opportunity to commend the outgoing Secretary General, Ambassador Marc Perrin de Brichambaut for his valuable work over the past six years, in particular for promoting closer ties between the EU and the OSCE.”
