EUSR / Head of EU Office in Kosovo, Samuel Žbogar, visits North Mitrovica (07/03/2012)

The EU Special Representative and Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Samuel Žbogar has visited the remaining Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian (RAE) families in Osterode Camp, and met with the representatives of the University of Mitrovica and civil society activists from the north.

Mr Žbogar was informed on the difficulties that the RAE families face in their day to day life, by the representative of the remaining families waiting for resettlement to Roma Mahala in South Mitrovica. The RAE representative expressed gratitude for the support that they received from the EU, which already enabled some 118 families living in Česmin Lug and Osterode camps to resettle in Roma Mahalla. The remaining 17 families are expected to move there in the upcoming months, while the EU is looking into finding a solution for the last 3 families who want to settle in north of Kosovo.

EUSR/Head of EU Office furthermore met with the Rector of University of Mitrovica, dr. Zdravko Vitosević and discussed with him the ongoing cooperation with the University, as well as the possibilities for future collaboration.

The EUSR/Head of EU Office also paid a visit to the EU Info Point in North Mitrovica where he met with representatives of the local media and civil society, to discuss the current political developments, challenges they are facing in their work and to inform them on the upcoming funding opportunities for civil society projects.
