Mayotte & the EU
Mayotte is an overseas territory which belongs to France and is connected to the European Union via the Overseas Association Decision (OAD).
The European Union intervenes in Mayotte under the framework of the European Development Fund (EDF), as set out in the OAD. The main areas of intervention between the 4th EDF in the 1970’s and the 9th EDF have been the environment and water. The 10th EDF, which was approved in 2008, plans to provide aid in the form of general budget support with the emphasis on reforming public finances.
