Introduction

The European Union (EU) and Mexico enjoy a rich bilateral relationship, which has led to important results and achievements in recent years. The EU enjoys close historical and cultural links with Mexico and shares a set of key fundamental values such as democracy, respect for the rule of law and human rights.

The progressive strengthening and dynamism of the long-term EU-Mexico bilateral relations under the Global Agreement - Economic Partnership, Political Coordination and Cooperation Agreement -, has ultimately led the EU and Mexico to establish closer bilateral political links and it is in this context that the European Union and Mexico have established a Strategic Partnership in 2008.
