Welcome

The Delegation of the European Union to Sudan is headed by Ambassador Tomas Ulicny, who took up his post on 3 January 2012:

Dear all,

I would like to welcome you to our internet website, the unique gate to information about the European Union activities in Sudan and the entire world. Since, I have assumed my duties in January 2012 I strive to work collectively with more than 50 Sudanese and European professionals in our Delegation in close coordination with the EU Special Representative for Sudan and South Sudan, 9 EU Member States accredited and present in Sudan to achieve our common objectives in order to create conducive environment for gradual growth and strengthening of the European-Sudanese relations.

The European Union is a major actor and donor in Sudan.  Politically, we support the implementation of the CPA Agreement between Sudan and South Sudan and continuous efforts aimed at achieving sustainable stability in Darfur, Eastern Sudan, South Kordofan and Blue Nile. In terms of development, we currently implement 38 projects in Sudan in the sectors of good governance, human rights, food security and rural development. The European Union continues its relief efforts in Darfur and moreover provides assistance to internally displaced persons in conflict areas in coordination with ECHO, local and international partners.

My objective for cooperation with our Sudanese partners is to take advantage of all available EU instruments to enhance EU-Sudanese relations through transparent and constructive political dialogue with the Government of Sudan in order to strengthen peace, democracy, fundamental human rights. Through our development cooperation we actively assist in stimulating economical growth in Sudan. I also believe that is worthy to invest in talented Sudanese people. The European Union will continue funding government and society projects in Sudan and benefits those in need and empowers children, youth and women to contribute to their communities.  Reviving business with Europe is also of my concern and I look forward to seeing the volume of trade between Sudan and Europe considerably increased during my term in office.

Above all, the European Union 27 Member Countries are fully committed and ready to further contribute to achieving peace and stability in Sudan and whole region.

On a personal note, I am truly impressed by the warmth of the Sudanese people and their keen interest and knowledge about Europe which shares many commonalities with Sudan. We want to keep a diverse communication channels open with you and those interested in EU-Sudanese relations are always welcomed to write to us or visit the Delegation.
