EU-Council of Europe programme to organise conference on the future of advocacy in Ukraine (19/06/2009)
The European Union/Council of Europe Joint Programme ”Transparency and efficiency of the judicial system of Ukraine” is organising a conference on "The future of legal profession in Ukraine" to be held on 23 June 2009 in Kyiv.
The conference will discuss the current situation of advocacy and the legislative proposals to regulate it. Legal professions remain largely unregulated under Ukrainian law. Four different draft laws on advocacy, which have been recently submitted to the Parliament attempt to remedy this situation. The aim of the meeting is to exchange views on possible solutions to the challenges faced by the Ukrainian practicing lawyers and on bringing the legal profession in conformity with European standards.
Experts of the Council of Europe, representatives of legal associations, the Government and the Parliament will participate in the discussion. The conference will be introduced by the representatives of the Council of Europe and the European Commission Delegation in Ukraine as well as by Mr Volodymyr Vysotskiy, Head of the High Qualification Commission of Advocacy.
The meeting will take place on 23 June 2009 in the Conference Centre at the President Hotel Kyivsky, on 12 Hospitalna st., Kyiv, from 10:00 till 17:30 and is open to the press. A press conference will start at 9:30.
