Ambassador of European Commission to Ukraine to Visit Donetsk Region (08/07/2009)

Ambassador José Manuel Pinto Teixeira, Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine, will visit Donetsk region on 9-10 July 2009. The objectives of this visit are to meet with regional and local authorities in Donetsk and Mariupol. Ambassador Pinto Teixeira will also participate in the signing ceremony of the Partnership Agreement between the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine, Donetsk State Administration and Regional Council to implement the joint EU-UNDP project on Community Based Approach to Local Development in the region.

On 9 July Ambassador Teixeira is expected to have meetings with Mr Volodymyr Lohvynenko, Head of Donetsk Regional Administration, and Mr Anatoliy Blyzniuk, Chairman of Donetsk Regional Council. At 12:00 noon he will take part in the official signing ceremony between UNDP and Donetsk regional authorities followed by signing of Partnership Agreements with eight district authorities in the region selected for participation in the EU-UNDP project on community development.

At 13:10 Ambassador Teixeira will participate in the press briefing held at the Donetsk Regional Council. Later this day, he will meet with a group of non-governmental organisations working on regional development and with representatives of the European Business Association  in Donetsk.

On 10 July the Ambassador will visit Mariupol where he is expected to meet with City Mayor Mr Yuri Khotlubei. The visit will continue with a tour to the Azov Electric Steel Plant followed by a meeting with the Greek community residing in Mariupol.
