The Eastern Partnership Mulilateral Platforms - 2010

In 2010 the 3rd and 4th round of Platform meetings took place.

THIRD ROUND

The third round was organised in April-June. Platform 1 on Democracy, good governance and stability pdf - 34 KB [34 KB] meet on the 29th of April in Brussels. The main objective of the meeting was to debrief participants on the development of the platform activities to date (the establishment of the Civil Society Forum, the first panel on Integrated Border Management) and discuss its future actions.

Platform 2 on  Economic integration and convergence with EU policies pdf - 34 KB [34 KB] met on the 7th of May in Brussels. The meeting focused on SME (Small and Medium Enterprises ) policy. It discussed also cooperation in the field of transport, the recommendations from the EaP Civil Society Forum  and priorities for the future. The participants were also informed about the state of play regarding the work of the already established Panels on “Trade” and “Environment and Climate Change”.

Platform 3 on Energy Security pdf - 34 KB [34 KB] met on the 20th of May in Brussels. The main topics of discussion were security of energy supply and improvement of energy efficiency in buildings. A number of presentations on these issues were given by experts from the European Commission and other institutions from both the EU and the Partner countries. Participants were informed about the already established initiatives under Platform 3.                                                                                                          

Platform 4 meeting on Contacts between People pdf - 34 KB [34 KB] took place o the 27th of May in Brussels. The meeting reflected on a number of presentations and discussed policies in higher education and research. A progress report of what had been achieved so far under Platform 4 and a list of forthcoming events was presented to participants.

FOURTH ROUND

The fourth round of meetings was organized in October-November 2010. Platform 1on Democracy, good governance and stability met on the 7th of October. The Participants were debriefed on the state of play of the EaP multilateral track, with a particular focus on the developments since its last meeting and the European Neighbourhood Policy review process. They were also informed about the activities launched under platform 1: the flagship initiative Integrated Border Management pdf - 167 KB [167 KB] and the Panel on Fight Against Corruption

The Platform discussed also next steps to be taken in the implementation of its Work Programme. It decided to focus on public administration reform.  

Platform 2 on  Economic integration and convergence with EU policies met on the 10th of November .The representatives of the European Commission presented reports about the state of play regarding the Panel meetings on “Trade and Trade Related Regulatory Cooperation” and “SME Policy pdf - 116 KB [116 KB] ”.  The participants discussed the Progress Report of the platform.  Other topics raised at the meeting were cooperation in the field of transport, cooperation in the field of labour markets and social policies, and cooperation in the field of taxation and public finance. 

Platform 3 on Energy Security met on the 27th of October. The meeting examined security of supply statements that were presented by the delegations from the Partner Countries. The afternoon session focused mainly on the security of oil supplies. Issues like oil interconnections and diversification of supply, safety of offshore oil industry and EU Directive on oil stocks discussed. 

Platform 4on Contacts between People met on the 13th of October. The meeting took stock of its activities to date. Participants discussed the eTwinning Programme – both the progress that has been already made and the participation of Eastern countries in this programme. Other issues discussed were: the policy framework for cooperation with schools at the EU level, ICT (information and communication technology) in schools and possibilities offered to third countries to participate in the EU Lifelong Learning programme.
