The European Union deployed an Election Expert Mission (EU EEM) to analyse and report on the legislative elections there on 20 October.
After 10 years of stability, Niger was faced with a sociopolitical crisis when the President refused to step down after his second term in office. The legislative elections on 20 October followed a constitutional referendum on 4 August.
While EU EEMs analyse all frameworks and phases of the electoral cycle, keeping to the relevant recognised international standard, they are of a technical nature. They do not conduct direct observation. They are not headed by political figure and do not deliver public statements or press releases. They provide a technical document for the EU institutions and Member States that reports on the country’s specific electoral situation.
