Philippines
The relations between the European Union and the Republic of the Philippines take place through periodic meetings of Senior Officials (SOM) where political, commercial and economic issues are discussed. The next SOM is scheduled to be held in December 2008 in Brussels. In addition, EU co-operation with the Philippines is governed by the EU-ASEAN Agreement of 1980.
The overall objective of the EU cooperation with the Philippines as outlined in the Country Strategy Paper for the period 2007-2013 [551 KB] (EURO 130 million in total) is the sustainable reduction of poverty. In particular, supporting access to basic social services, helping economic, social and political reforms and contributing to restore peace and security, especially in Mindanao.
