Wolfram Vetter, the representative Ambassador of the European Union to Burkina Faso.
Wolfram Vetter presented in October 2019 his Letters of Credence to the President of Faso, as Ambassador, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Ouagadougou. Mr. Vetter was educated at the Universities of Bamberg and Bonn in Germany, as well as at the Institute of Political Studies in Toulouse, France. He holds a doctorate in political science, history and public law from the University of Bonn. Before becoming a European civil servant, he worked for the Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag) and for the German Foreign Ministry.
Much of his career with European institutions has been devoted to African issues and development cooperation issues. His career has notably led him as political advisor to the Delegation of the European Commission in Ethiopia and to the African Union, to the Political Unit of the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the EU, and to the General Directorate for Development.
Within the framework of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Mr. Vetter worked as Head of Division a.i. in charge of development cooperation. In 2016, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Head of Delegation of the European Union to Burundi, before becoming in 2019 Ambassador and Head of Delegation to Burkina Faso.
Wolfram Vetter is married with four children.
The mission of the European Union Delegation to Burkina Faso is to support the country in its actions in favor of peace, stability and security, and to contribute to its desire to achieve strong, sustained economic growth and quality, aimed at reducing poverty, increasing the quality of life of the population, while ensuring sustained and sustainable development.
