Ambassador’s Corner

A career diplomat, H.E. Veronika Bošković Pohar has over twenty-five years of experience in security policy, multilateral affairs and the foreign policy of the European Union (EU). A Slovenian national, she holds degrees in law from the Universities of Ljubljana and Poitiers and has furthered her education through executive leadership programmes at Harvard and Toronto. Her career has provided her with extensive expertise in crisis management, consular affairs, the strategic coordination of security and defence issues, as well as economic cooperation and integration.
Having joined the diplomatic service in 2001, she has notably served as Deputy Head of Mission to the OECD, Deputy Director-General for Global Affairs at the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Director for Security Affairs. She has also served in France, Morocco and at UNESCO.
Appointed Ambassador to the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the European Union in Brussels, she contributed to shaping and implementing the EU’s foreign, security and defence policy, notably in the context of the priorities set by the rotating Presidencies of the Council of the European Union.
Prior to her posting to Yaoundé, she served as Head of the European Union Delegation to Afghanistan, where she carried out her duties in a particularly complex political, security and humanitarian environment.
Today, as Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, H.E. Veronika Bošković Pohar brings her diplomatic experience, leadership and knowledge of complex environments to the service of a stronger EU–Cameroon partnership, based on shared interests and geared towards delivering concrete results.
