Visa

A "Schengen" visa for non-European nationals

The free movement of people within Europe is the basis of the European integration project. Non-European nationals wishing to travel to the EU need a visa. The so-called "Schengen" visa allows travel within the entire Schengen area, which is made up of 22 of the 27 EU Member States and four associated countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland).

In Côte d'Ivoire, to apply for a visa to :

  • Estonia, Finland, Slovakia, contact the German consulate
  • Austria, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden, contact the Belgian consulate
  • Poland, Portugal, contact the Spanish Consulate
  • Greece, Hungary, Malta, Latvia, Lithuania, contact the French Consulate General
  • Czech Republic and Liechtenstein, contact the Swiss Consulate

The Delegation of the European Union does not issue visas. Consular matters are still handled by the Member States, some of which have honorary consuls.
If an EU citizen is in distress in a country where his or her own state is not represented, he or she can turn to any representation of an EU Member State within the framework of European consular assistance. Assistance is limited to emergency situations.

It supports priorities and activities set out in the European Education Area, Digital Education Action Plan and the European Skills Agenda. The programme also:

  • Supports the European Pillar of Social Rights.
  • Implements the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027.
  • Develops the European dimension in sport.

Erasmus+ offers mobility and cooperation opportunities in:

  • Higher education.
  • Vocational education and training.
  • School education (including early childhood education and care).
  • Adult education.
  • Youth.
  • Sport.

Detailed information on these opportunities, including eligibility criteria, is available in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide

The outcomes of Erasmus+ are available in reports and compendia of statistics, as well as through the Erasmus+ Projects Platform. This includes most of the initiatives funded by the programme and a selection of good practices and success stories.
