Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.
We offer
We offer a post of Press and Information Officer . Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Press and Information Officer – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function, the successful candidate will assist Political Counsellors and Press Officer with media analysis and contacts. In particular his/her tasks will be analysis and translation of press and political articles relating to the EU activities in Afghanistan, including a monthly media analysis regarding EU coverage and reporting on EU activities, analysis of media reporting on political and economic activities in Afghanistan, analysis of media reporting on the main political developments in Afghanistan and the region, the translation of press articles as and when required, the monitoring and management of the EU Delegation social media accounts, the replacement of the press officer and the secretary/administrative assistant of the Political, Press and Information Section in case of their absence, the assistance in the preparation and implementation of annual information plan along with the corresponding budget. the establishing and maintaining contacts with media to promote awareness of the EU, as well as assisting in campaigns and outreach activities, the drafting and dissemination press release in in Persian and Pashto, the coordination of media events for national media in Persian /Pashto, such as press briefings and press conferences, aligned journalists- press briefings/press conferences, press and TV interviews and information seminars, etc.
The recruited person will work in a multicultural working environment, The fixed Term Employment contract is of one year duration, starting with a 3 months probationary period. The length of the working week shall be 37.5 working hours. The Delegation premises are located at Charahi Sedarat Shaare-Naw, Kabul Afghanistan.
The post falls under Group 1 of the Delegation’s salary scheme. EU salaries in Afghanistan are highly competitive. The exact amount will be communicated upon finalizing the recruitment. Selection Criteria
Minimum Requirements:
- Medically fit to perform the required duties;
- Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
- Relevant University degree (preferably in journalism, Communication or international relations).
- Minimum three (3) years of working experience in media or communication.
- English C1; proficiency in Persian / Pashto (written and spoken);
- Good computer skills on MS Office tools.
The following will be considered an asset:
- Knowledge about the European Union
- Knowledge of another European or Afghan language
- Experience of work in Diplomatic Mission, International Organization or Public Institution;
- Experience of Work in Political Communication;

The procedure
After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase, which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.
The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
