AU–EU Summit Model: Where Tomorrow’s Leaders Step into Diplomacy Today

The AU–EU Summit Model is a first-of-its-kind youth-led simulation bringing together young people from African Union and European Union Member States in Addis Ababa to step directly into the architecture of high-level diplomacy of the #aueu partnership. Through structured negotiations and collaborative dialogue, participants engage with critical global priorities—peace, climate action, and inclusive economic development—culminating in the joint drafting of a youth declaration that reflects shared aspirations across both continents.

At the heart of the AU-EU partnership is a clear recognition: youth are not only stakeholders of the future, but active shapers of the present. It is in this spirit that Model Africa Union–Ethiopia, in partnership with the European Union Delegation to the African Union and the African Union Commission’s Women, Youth and Gender Directorate, has launched the AU–EU Summit Model under the theme: “Intercontinental Youth Collaboration: Strengthening AU–EU Partnership in Peace, Climate and Economic Development.”

Beyond its diplomatic simulation, the AU–EU Summit Model is a vibrant arena for intercultural exchange, leadership development, and skills-building. Participants strengthen competencies in negotiation, diplomacy, climate governance, and inclusive economic policymaking, while deepening mutual understanding between African and European youth.

Ultimately, the AU–EU Summit Model reaffirms a simple but powerful truth: the future of the AU–EU partnership will be shaped not only in institutions and summits, but also in spaces where young people are empowered to think boldly, speak confidently, and build collectively.
