Celebration of Partnerships and Culture on Europe Day in Addis Ababa

Europe Day was celebrated in Addis Ababa last week-end in a new evening formula filled with cultural diplomacy activities! With the EU Delegation to the African Union (AU) as host this year, colleagues and friends from our 20 EU Member States represented in Addis, AU Commission and AU Member States, Ethiopian authorities, international organisations & civil society organisations participated enthusiastically in a festive evening on 12 May.

Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide and AU Commissioner Bankole joined Ambassador Kobia and Ambassador Markussen with opening remarks. Our invitees enjoyed the various culinary treats and great European drinks offered by EU Member States, as well as the music and the informal get together. EU at its best!

On 13 May, reaching out to a wider local audience, EUAU Delegation closed the celebrations with a fascinating concert by Gecko Turner, an Afro-European band and a collective of the best Addis DJs attracting a big crowd. In addition, the public enjoyed the graffiti art, caricature, viewing the stars, coffee testing and many more fun activities.
