Delivering Impact for Africa's Single Market

Realizing Africa's single market takes more than ambition; it demands robust institutions, effective partnerships, and practical support to transform the AfCFTA into concrete opportunities for businesses and citizens alike.

Over the past three years, the European Union and its Member States, together with their development organizations, have worked through the EU Technical Assistance Facility (EU-TAF) programme alongside the AfCFTA Secretariat, the African Union Commission, Regional Economic Communities, Member States, and private-sector organizations to strengthen the systems driving continental economic integration.

These efforts have focused on supporting the negotiation and implementation of AfCFTA protocols, empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), strengthening regional coordination, and expanding digital trade tools—all key results of a true "Team Europe" partnership.

The EU-TAF provides demand-driven technical support to the AfCFTA Secretariat, the AU and its specialized agencies, Regional Economic Communities, AU Member States, the private sector, and civil society. This facility firmly positions the EU and its Member States as the single largest partner to the AfCFTA Secretariat.

Since the inception of the AfCFTA, the EU and its Member States have remained its primary partners. This commitment is backed by the EUR 1.2 billion Team Europe Initiative in Support of African Economic Integration, which comprises over 80 actions aimed at boosting intra-African trade in alignment with the African Union Agenda 2063 and the European Union Global Gateway Strategy.
