On the occasion of International Women’s Day, EU Women Ambassadors and the Head of the EIB Office resident in Addis Ababa met today with Women leaderships of UN Agencies

08.03.2021

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, EU Women Ambassadors and the representative of the EIB Office resident in Addis Ababa met today with Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa and Hanna Tetteh, Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union.

They commended the commitment and progress towards gender equality and increasing women leadership in their respective institutions and also highlighted the gender parity in the incoming AU Commission. Women’s equal participation and representation is a moral and human rights imperative, and a goal in itself. It is also a condition for good governance, sustainable growth and social cohesion.

It is  time to recognise the tremendous efforts by women and girls everywhere to shape a more equal future and recovery notably from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had a disproportionate negative impact on their rights.

Happy International Women’s Day.
