Call for Interest: European Union Visitors Programme 2025 [Apply before 2 April 2024]

The European Union Visitors Programme (EUVP) invites young, promising leaders from countries outside the European Union, including Australia, to visit Brussels to gain a first-hand appreciation of the EU’s institutions, policies, values, and people to increase mutual understanding between professionals from non-EU countries and their EU counterparts.

 

Australians are Invited to Apply for the 2025 European Union Visitors Programme

The EUVP is jointly sponsored and administered by the European Parliament and the European Commission. An EUVP visit consists of an individual 5- to 8-day program of meetings with EU officials at the EU institutions in Brussels, Paris and/or Strasbourg. All programs are coordinated and arranged by the EUVP Secretariat. Travel, accommodation  and per diem costs are covered by the EUVP.

Who is Eligible to Participate?

Australian citizens with a career-related interest in the EU are invited to apply. Ideal candidates, aged 25-35, are professionals in a field where their EUVP experience will enhance their understanding of the EU and contribute positively to their chosen career path.

Fluency in English or French is required to be able to conduct meetings with the EU Colleagues.

Eligible participants fall under one of the following categories:  

  • Political milieus: Such as members of national and regional Parliaments, mayors, party officials and advisers to politicians.
  • Government/Parliamentary officials: In particular those exercising responsibility in areas of special relevance to the EU.
  • Media: In particular those exercising an editorial function in areas of special relevance to the EU (e.g. as foreign affairs editor, political correspondent of national newspapers, editor of regional newspapers, radio or TV current affairs producer/presenter, etc.).
  • Civil society actors/Trade unionists: Such as human rights activists, women’s rights defenders, environmentalists, development workers, trade unionists (in particular those exercising a national responsibility in the field of international relations), etc.
  • Academics/Think-tanks: In particular those responsible for teaching and researching in the fields of EU/international affairs.

The EUVP is not open for students. Participants are required to have completed their university education or equivalent training and will have already gained some years of professional experience.

 

How are Participants Selected?

Depending on the number of applications, a first review of the candidates is made by the Delegation of the European Union to Australia. A final selection is made by the selected by the EUVP Management Committee in Brussels, composed of the European Parliament and the European Commission high-ranking officials. Selected candidates will be notified in the second half 2024. The participants will then choose the dates of their study visits from a list of dates in 2025 that will be offered to them.

 

What is the Application Process?

Please complete the following three forms and send them by email to the Delegation of the European Union to Australia at delegation-australia@eeas.europa.eu no later than 2 April 2024 with following subject line: "Application for EUVP 2025":

Statement of Purpose: To ensure that the individually-tailored program reflects your motivation for the visit and your professional interest, the statement should include a brief description of your current responsibilities, EU theme(s) you wish to examine, topics you wish to discuss, and as well as a realistic list of desired appointments. Please note that incomplete applications will not be processed.

The candidates who have not been selected will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Call for Interest to inform the remaining candidates once the selection procedure is completed.
