DESIGN Canberra: Plastique Fantastique MEDUSA, 15-17 November

28.10.2019

The national capital will be transformed into a global city of design during November. The international highlight of the DESIGN Canberra festival is European-based artists Plastique Fantastique.

The Berlin-based designers have created temporary architectural spaces, designed to encourage the community to interact together creatively in our urban environment. The EU Delegation to Australia is proudly supporting two installations that will be presented for the very first time to Australian audiences: MEDUSA and Twin Minigagarin.

MEDUSA

MEDUSA is 250 cubic meter space deflating to a 50kg package travelling from London, Valencia, Berlin and now to Canberra. Her compact shipping profile means minimal transportation emissions. She will continue the journey and at a certain point in her life, she will be upcycled to become reusable rain jackets, revitalising her memories from different cities in the world.

MEDUSA embodies the notion of appropriate and respectful use of material. A re-usable and ultimately recyclable structure, Medusa is made of transparent TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane). TPU can be recycled.

Twin Minigagarin

Building

Plastique Fantastique’s Twin Minigagarin will land at the Canberra Airport departures foyer, where travelers from all over the world can rest inside as if they have stopped over at a space station during their journey.

Twin Minigagarin embodies appropriate and respectful use of materials. The structure is reusable and modular - installation and deinstallation are rapid and require minimal labor.
