The EU’s CEMS delivers more than 101 maps in support of recent floods

The EU Copernicus Emergency Management System has delivered more than 100 maps for over 50 areas of interest in support of the emergency response during the floods that have been affecting Australia in the past 8 months.

The EU Copernicus Emergency Management System has delivered more than 100 maps for over 50 areas of interest in support of the emergency response during the floods that have been affecting Australia in the past 8 months.

Since last November 2021, Australia has been hit by a repeated series of intense rainfall events associated with the current La Niña event. They have caused major floods on the east coast and beyond. The worst affected areas are in New South Wales and southern Queensland, where a large number of the communities have experienced once-in-a-generation flooding.

 This intense and prolonged phenomenon has been the subject of sevenRapid Mapping activations (EMSR550, EMSR554, EMSR562, EMSR567, EMSR570,  EMSR574 & EMSR586) that have supported local authorities in monitoring the impact and consequences of the series of floods.
