EU Commissioner Dalli visit to Australia
EU Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli is in Australia where she will meet government representatives to discuss gender equality and participate in the WorldPride 2023 in Sydney, the first-ever WorldPride held in the southern hemisphere.
Today, in Canberra, she will meet Ambassador for Gender Equality, Stephanie Copus Campbell; Minister for Women, Katy Gallagher; and Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Bill Shorten. On Tuesday, the Commissioner will be in Sydney, where she will participate in a Global Philanthropic Project Conference which will focus on ‘Resourcing LGBTIQ Movements for Change in Asia and the Pacific'.
Over the next day, Commissioner Dalli will meet the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner, Ro Allen; and the Assistant Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, Justine Elliot, among others. She will speak at the Australian Council for Human Rights Authorities (ACHRA) and at the Global Equity Caucus on LGBTIQ rights in Asia Pacific. She will also participate in the European Australian Business Council roundtable, where she will speak about the EU's actions to drive gender equality on corporate boards.
On the last day of her visit, Commissioner Dalli will deliver a keynote speech at the WorldPride event in Sydney. Photos will be available on EbS. For more details, visit the website.
“We are all born free and equal in dignity and rights. Yet, LGBTIQ person’s ability to live life free from exclusion, hatred and violence remains compromised by discriminatory laws and social attitudes. Us politicians have the duty to address discrimination and table legislation that decriminalises LGBTIQ identities, affirms legal equality, and tackles hate speech and crime and other harmful practices.
