The EU Delegation to Australia Honours Australian Sporting Leaders for Inclusivity at 2026 Pride in Sport Awards
On 14 April 2026, the EU Delegation to Australia was honoured to celebrate organisations, clubs, and individuals making Australian sport more inclusive for LGBTQ+ communities - reflecting a shared commitment between the EU and Australia to advance equality and human rights.
The Ambassador Gabriele Visentin presented the Executive Leadership Award, recognising a leader who has driven meaningful change for LGBTQ+ inclusion both within their organisation and across the wider sporting community.
This year’s recipient, James E. Shields III from Emerald City Kickball Australia, exemplifies these values. Through his leadership, he has built sustainable pathways for LGBTQA+ participation, strengthened governance, mentored emerging leaders, and expanded inclusive sporting opportunities nationwide.
Congratulations to James on his well deserved award.
The EU is committed to working with our Australian partners to foster inclusive, safe and welcoming sporting environments for all.
