The EU Delegation celebrates Europe Day across Australia in solidarity with Ukraine

Multiple events have taken place across the country to celebrate Europe Day in Australia: from Canberra to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Hobart.

This time around, the EU representatives highlighted three key aspects about this year's main scope of work for the EU in Australia and globally: the EU response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the implementation of the EU’s Indo-Pacific strategy and the conclusion of the FTA negotiations.

“Australia is a member of the core group of like-minded countries” explained EU Ambassador Michael Pulch during a Europe Day reception in Canberra. He detailed how Australia and the EU had maintained an intensive coordination process throughout the crisis in Ukraine, adopting unprecedented sanctions against the Russian government.

Throughout the month of May, buildings across the country were illuminated in the European colors of blue and yellow.

In the Europe Day 2022 program there was also room for cultural activities. A number of concerts were organised to raise funds for Ukraine and raise awareness about the ongoing conflict in Europe. It is noteworthy to mention The Last Mile, a concert organised in partnership with the Canberra International Music Festival. The Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Myroshnychenko was invited as a guest of honour. Concerts were also held in Perth and Hobart.
