The EU Delegation helps bring Eurovision 2022 to Australian fans

The EU Delegation partnered with Georges River Council and the official Eurovision Fan Association – OGAE Australia –  to sponsor a number of activities that amplified the outreach of the European contest in Australia.

The 2022 Eurovision season was intense and full of events for the Australian fans. Partnering with Georges River Council and the official Eurovision Fan Association – OGAE Australia – , the EU Delegation sponsored a number of activities to amplify the outreach of the European contest in the country.

The selection of events included a set of preview parties celebrated in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth; and a viewing party hosted in Hurstville, Sydney.

All the events attracted the presence of hundreds of eurofans that met up to celebrate the diversity of European music and culture. As it has been happening since 2015, Australia was part of the contest and joined the competition with the voice of Sheldon Riley.

The event in Sydney was themed after the host country of the edition: Italy. Hundreds of fans were able to gorge themselves on a traditional Italian breakfast, take pictures while sitting on a Gondola and enjoy a half-time performance by Sydney drag queens.

Flags of every EU country were on display and many of the attendants raised the colours of their favourites high up in the air.

In the end, Ukraine emerged victorious followed by the UK and Spain. The 2023 contest is expected to take place in the UK due to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
