EU-Qantas Journalist Award 2026 Announced

ABC’s Chief Digital Political Correspondent, Clare Armstrong, has been named this year’s EU-Qantas Journalist Award winner.

Ambassador Gabriele Visentin presented the 2026 EU-Qantas Journalist Award to ABC’s Chief Political Correspondent Clare Armstrong, alongside Qantas’ ACT Regional Manager Candace Efstratiou.  

For over 30 years, the EU-Qantas Journalist Award has recognised exceptional journalism in the Australian media.  

As this year’s award recipient, Clare will embark on a 10-day working trip to Europe to explore the growing partnership. Clare’s reporting will focus on how the EU and Australia are working to address shared challenges, such as AI and misinformation, among an increasingly difficult geopolitical environment where threats extend beyond borders.  

About the Award 

Awarded annually since 1992, the EU-Qantas Journalist Award is open to Australian journalists with over three years of experience in print or electronic media. The purpose of the award is to bring European stories relevant to Australian audiences and strengthen mutual understanding. 

Award partner Qantas provides a business class fare for the travelling journalist and the National Press Club of Australia plays a crucial role in the evaluation of applications.
