Funded internship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to Australia – Trade, Economics, Research & Innovation Section
WHAT WE OFFER?
An internship of 6 months within the Trade and Economic Section of the EU Delegation to Australia, starting in September 2022.
Main tasks:
- Support the Section's research and reporting to Headquarters on Australia's trade policy and economy. Assist in the organisation of the Section’s outreach activities, support social media communication, and draft speeches for the Head of Delegation.
- Support the Delegation in the preparation of visits, missions and meetings as well as follow-up actions e.g. preparation of briefing materials, drafting minutes, etc.
- Attend and report on meetings, seminars, conferences and other events in Australia.
- Support the daily work of the Section.
WE LOOK FOR
Qualifications or special requirements:
- English language proficiency (mandatory)
- Knowledge of a second language (EU or regional) is an advantage
- University degree in economics, political science, law, or similar field. Studies undertaken related to trade policy would be a strong advantage.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO READ BEFORE APPLYING
Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid internship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship) - in particular but not exclusively article 8 thereof). This post will be open only to EU Member State nationals (with no dual Australian nationality) currently residing outside Australia.
The selection process will be based on merit and aimed at ensuring that all candidates are treated in a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory manner.
Each selected intern will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travel to the country of posting, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the intern. The intern will be solely responsible for any tax due on the internship grant.
The EU Delegation will assist the selected candidates in applying for the relevant visa by Australian authorities.
Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview by the most adequate means (skype, phone call etc.). The Delegation will not supply additional information or discuss the selection procedure by telephone. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
Non-resident candidates must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation.
The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin. In assessing the applications received, account will need to be taken of the COVID-19 situation and its possible effects on access possibilities to the country of assignment and thus candidates currently residing in country of assignment might be preferred.
The Delegation informs that even if our Headquarters confirm the eligibility of the selected candidate, traineeships could be postponed, suspended or even cancelled considering the very evolving context of the COVID-19 outbreak in the host country as well as in the country of origin. The same rule apply if a selected candidate is unable to reach the country of assignment.
