Geographical Indications: What can South Australia learn from the EU? 12 September, Lobethal

The European Union's (EU) system of identifying food products based on origin - Geographical Indications (GIs) - is a driver of rural jobs and sustainable growth. Australia is considering extending the protection of European food and spirit product names to its own market as part of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), currently under negotiation. Australia could also expand the GI system already in place for wine, which has delivered benefits to South Australia.

How could this work in practice? What are the benefits for consumers, producers and regions?
