Our Colors Never Fade: EU and Ukraine sponsor first screening in Australia

The stories of LGBTQIA+ Ukrainian soldiers and their struggle during Russia’s full-scale invasion were brought to the screen last week in Canberra.

Last Thursday, EU Ambassador Gabriele Visentin and the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia welcomed guests to the first Australian screening of “Our Colors Never Fade”.

Our Colors Never Fade is an award-winning documentary that tells the stories of LGBTQIA+ Ukrainians who chose to defend their country during Russia’s full-scale invasion, while also fighting for their right to exist and live freely.

The documentary brings underrepresented voices to the forefront of the experience of war, letting the courage and sacrifice of their plight for both national and personal freedom speak for itself.

Director Jim McSherry and producer Karl Hillbrick attended the showing and participated in a Q&A with guests following the film.

During his remarks, Ambassador Gabriele Visentin said:

“Their stories speak across borders because they are ultimately stories about human dignity: the courage to defence one’s home, the courage to live authentically, and the courage to refuse to disappear”.

A big thank you to the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia, the Our Colors Never Fade team for working with us to bring the film to Australia for its first screening, and to all guests who joined us for this important evening.

Together with Australia, we continue to #StandWithUkraine.
