Team Europe, Australia, Norway, Canada, and the UK Reaffirm Unwavering Support for Ukraine
On 23 February, Team Europe, together with representatives from Norway, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, gathered at the EU Delegation in Canberra alongside Ukrainian Ambassador HE Vasyl Myroshnychenko to reaffirm their unwavering support for Ukraine’s fight for freedom, sovereignty, and shared democratic values.
They also acknowledged Australia’s continued strong bipartisan support for Ukraine.
Gabriele Visentin, Ambassador of the European Union, and Ambassador Vasyl Myroshnychenko also engaged extensively with the Australian national press through a series of national interviews, where they discussed the current situation in Ukraine and reaffirmed the EU’s continued political, military, financial, and humanitarian support for Ukraine’s defence efforts as well as thanking Australia for their continued support.
The EU and its member states have supported Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, and together are Ukraine’s biggest provider of financial assistance.
So far, the overall assistance to Ukraine, including military support, proceeds from immobilised Russian assets and support for Ukrainian refugees, amounts to €194.9 billion.
The EU is also supporting Ukraine’s economy through trade measures, including the solidarity lanes and the review of their deep and comprehensive free trade area, which gradually cuts tariffs and brings Ukraine's rules into line with those of the EU in certain industrial sectors and agricultural products.
The EU understands that peace for Ukraine must be grounded in the principles of the United Nations Charter, including respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the prohibition of territorial conquest by force.
Together, we are united in obtaining a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.
