The EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations in the world, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of embassies.
The European Union is represented in Australia by the Delegation of the European Union in Canberra, located at 18 Arkana Street- YARRALUMIA ACT2600, which was established in 1981. The Delegation is responsible for the conduct of official relations between Australia and the European Union. In all matters pertaining to the European Union, the Delegation works closely with the diplomatic missions of EU Member States based in Australia.
We offer
We offer a post of Driver/Logistic support (Local Agent Group 5) in the Delegation’s Administration Section. The team consists of 6 people and there are occasional atypical working hours. Under this post, the recruited person will carry out functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Administration, providing support, expertise and assistance.
The Administration is responsible for the financial management of the Delegation in conformity with existing rules and regulations and as instructed by Headquarters. The Driver will be mainly driving the Head of Delegation and other staff, however also assisting the Administration Section in a variety of logistic and administrative tasks. This is a full time permanent position with specific working hours for, overtime may occur.
Following main tasks and duties are currently required:
- Drive the Delegation’s service vehicles;
- Ensure the transport of the Head of Delegation and other Delegation staff;
- Service vehicles car maintenance follow up;
- Delivery of mail and transport of goods/supplies for the Delegation or the EU Residence;
- Logistical support to the organization of meetings/events/missions;
- Perform light handyman tasks at the Delegation and the Residence;
- Keep up to date the inventory of the Delegation and the Residence (upon the responsibility of the Head of Administration);
- Back up of the receptionist and execution of minor administrative duties.
The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from $45,600 gross per year. The expected start date will be November 2022.
Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria
- Qualification: Secondary education and valid full Australian driver’s license
- Professional experience: Minimum 3-5 years of working experience in a similar position
- Working knowledge (B2) of languages: Good knowledge and communication skills in English (written and spoken)
- Knowledge of IT tools: Basic MS Office programs, such as Word, Excel, Outlook
- Right to residence and work in Australia
Assets / selection criteria
- High level of discretion, sense of responsibility, good time management;
- Experience in general logistic support (incl. car maintenance follow up)/handyman tasks;
- Experience in administrative support;
- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public (in person and on the telephone);
- Good English language skills (written, oral);
- Professional training (e.g. defensive driving, First Aid Course)

The process
After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.
Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of Selection may include shortlisting of candidates based assessment of the information provided in the cover letter, CV, practical testing and interviews. The best candidates will be invited to the final interview.
Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this job advertisement to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
