The overall objective to enhance the capacities of Azerbaijani authorities in the area of migration and border management in line with relevant EU-Azerbaijan Agreements, in particular the Visa Facilitation and Readmission Agreements.
The specific objectives of the project were fourfold: (1) to assist in the development and establishment of an effective mechanism for the new visa regime and readmission process; (2) to strengthen legal and institutional capacity for effective migration management, including improved organizational performance and efficiency; (3) to strengthen national capacity for integrated border management (IBM) through reinforcement of border check and border surveillance procedures and operation; (4) to increase capacity in reducing and combating irregular migration and transnational crimes such as trafficking in human beings and migrant smuggling.
