The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.
The EU Delegation to Bangladesh, Dhaka works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Bangladesh government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.
We offer
The post of Press and Information Officer (Local Agent, Group -1) in the Delegation’s PETPI Section under an unlimited period of employment. The team consists of 6 people and there are occasional atypical working hours (General Working hours: 37.5 Hours/week).
The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Political, Economic, Trade, Press and Information (PETPI) Section, providing support, expertise and assistance in the relevant field and will contribute to EU-Bangladesh cooperation in the fields of public diplomacy, press and information.
Following main tasks and duties are currently required:
+ Communication and public diplomacy:
- Create and execute information, communication, cultural and public diplomacy strategy to build and maintain awareness of the EU in Bangladesh.
- Manage and maintain the Delegation’s online presence, including the website and social media accounts (in English and Bangla), to ensure timely, informative, and engaging content that aligns with the Delegation's and EEAS objectives and priorities.
- Organise events and public diplomacy activities, including for culture, media, sports and youth to strengthen the image of the EU as a partner for Bangladesh.
- Coordinate communication and public diplomacy activities with the diplomatic missions of the Member States.
- Liaison officer and coordinator for the European Union Visitors’ Programme.
+ Relations with the media:

Lead in media planning and management including liaising with the media.

Prepare and issue press releases and draft and place press articles, with a view to promoting and protecting EU interests, values and policies in the Bangladesh media.

Lead in seeking out the opportunities for appropriate media contacts for the Head of Delegation and for visiting representatives or officials of the EU institutions, with a view to maximising the coherence and visibility of the EU in the Bangladesh media.

Build a strong network of contacts among traditional and online media professionals.
+ Planning and Coordination:
- Prepare the Information and Communication Annual Report and Forward Planning
- Plan, manage, implement and report on activities commitments and expenditures under the Press and Information budget commitments and expenditures, ensuring proper financial management.
- Support visibility of EU-funded projects, in close collaboration with the Delegation’s Cooperation Section.
- Develop and keep up to date a targeted Communications calendar on the activities and events conducted by the Delegation.
- Contribute to preparing Terms of Reference, tender documents and contracts for public diplomacy, press, and information services and products.
- Coordinate the procurement, inventory, and distribution of promotional materials and publication.
+ Reporting:
- Compile and disseminate daily press and media reviews.
- Ensure proper monitoring and follow-up of EU-related coverage in the Bangladesh media.

- Motivated and resilient, with ability to work alone and in a team, respecting deadlines
- Able to lead / introduce public events.
- Ability to work both independently as well as to work in a team in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to understand political sensitivities, protocol and tone expected in a diplomatic working environment.
The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from BDT. 310,955 to BDT. 647,443. There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays, health insurances and a retirement savings plan.
The expected start date will be September 01, 2026
Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)

University degree (Social Sciences, International Relations, Media, Communication, Information, Public relations, Press, Journalism or other relevant fields).

A minimum of 3 years of work experience in communications or other relevant fields.The professional experience must be acquired after the date on which the qualification allowing access to the post was obtained.

Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English (min. CEFR C1 level) and Bangla.

Right to residence and work in the country.

Medical fitness to carry out the required duties.

A clean police record and should be able to produce a clearance report when requested.
Assets/selection criteria (basis for awarding points to select the best applicant):
- Full computer literacy (MS Office, Power Point, social media monitoring tools)
- Previous working experience with International Organisations and/or Embassies, Multilateral donors etc.
- Familiarity with the Bangladeshi media landscape.
- Ability to manage various social media channels.

The process
After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.
Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of Selection may include shortlisting of candidates based assessment of the information provided in the cover letter, CV and motivation letter; practical testing and interviews. The 3 or more best candidates will be invited to the final interview and/or written test.
Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will not supply additional information or discuss the selection procedure.
