The project aims to develop dynamic and competitive micro and cottage Light Engineering (LE) enterprises in rural markets of Bangladesh as well as ensuring inclusive and sustainable market development of this sector. The project offers business development and enhanced management capacity of existing enterprises and the owners, strengthening the skills and employability of workers through apprenticeship, and value chain interventions including establishing networks of market committees to connect with regional and national businesses and trade associations. |

Objectives Outcome (Specific Objectives) and Outputs (Expected results)

Overall objective: To reduce poverty across Bangladesh by promoting pro-poor growth through engagement of disadvantaged youth in decent work opportunities and development of inclusive & sustainable markets. Specific objective: To enhance the development of micro and cottage enterprises at the rural areas, managed by skilled entrepreneurs and employing skilled workers, contributing to effective and sustainable market in the light engineering sector in 42 districts in Bangladesh. Expected results:

Target group(s) |
5000 micro and cottage in the light engineering sector employing 15000 workers, 10000 youth from marginalized communities in rural Bangladesh including 40% female, 10% PWD. |
Final beneficiaries |
Local level: 90,000 beneficiaries. 700 market committees (MC) and 500 members of local trade associations, 70,000 workers and enterprise owners of selected markets, 20,000 influential family members of selected youth, 500 members of local organizations providing skill training, members of financial institutions. National Level: Members of National Skills Development Councils (NSDC), Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB), Light Engineering Industry Skills Council, Informal Industry Skills Council, Ministry of Industries of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BWCCI),SME Foundation, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs (MoWCA), Bangladesh Bank, Department of Youth Development. |
