Temporary worker – Interpreter/Translator and Information Officer (6-month contract)

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.
The EU Delegation to the Republic of Belarus, Minsk works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Belarusian government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.
We offer
The temporary post of Interpreter/Translator and Information Officer (temporary worker, 6-month contract) in the Delegation’s Political, Economic, Press and Information Section.
Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Political, Economic, Press and Information Section, providing support, expertise and assistance mostly in the interpretation/translation and media monitoring.
Following main tasks and duties are currently required:
- Providing interpretation services (simultaneously and consecutively) to the Delegation expatriate staff and visiting staff from Russian and Belarusian into English and vice versa;
- Providing translation services to the Delegation. Translate official and unofficial documents and correspondence into Russian and Belarusian from English and vice versa for the expatriate staff;
- Translating from English to Belarusian and Russian of speech texts for distribution, articles for the Delegation website and letters, technical documents, contracts;
- Translating from Russian and Belarusian to English of documents written by ministries, local governments, economic and trade organisations or private companies, legal texts, cabinet and ministerial ordinances, circulars, press releases, brochures, leaflets, extracts from websites, newspaper articles;
- Drafting and summarising texts in English;
- Ensuring media monitoring;
- General information activity and consultations: daily work with queries from students, government, NGOs, other embassies and general public;
- Any other tasks designated by the Head of Section and/or Head of Delegation.
The salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience.
The expected start date will be 1 February 2026.
Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)
- Right to residence and work in Belarus;
- University degree in linguistics, social sciences, political sciences or related fields;
- Experience in the field of interpretation and translation from Russian and Belarusian into English and vice versa;
- Excellent English language skills;
- Excellent command of the Belarusian and Russian languages.
Assets / selection criteria (basis for awarding points to select the best applicant)
- Good analytical and drafting skills in English, Belarusian and Russian;
- Good command of Windows and relevant MS Office applications, such as Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point;
- Professional standard of reliability, confidentiality and job dedication;
- Ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines and work under pressure;
- Experience of working in the embassies and/or international organizations.

The process
After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.
Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of Selection may include shortlisting of candidates based on 1) assessment of the information provided in the cover/motivation letter, CV; 2) practical testing (writing test) and 3) interviews.
Short-listed candidates may be requested to send additional supporting documents.
Three (3) best candidates will be invited to the final interview.
Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this job advertisement to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
