Budget Support Programme for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Reforms – (2019-2023)
The programme is assisting Botswana in the transformation process from a resource-based to a knowledge-based, diversified economy. Specific assistance is provided to strengthen Botswana’s institutions and capacities to sustain change. By focusing on the development of human resources in the TVET system, the programme contributes to ensuring that this system increasingly generates graduates with labour-market relevant skills. The core of the programme comprises assistance to set up and strengthen the governance of the TVET sector, to implement gender-sensitive and demand-oriented TVET programmes, and to roll out multiple pathways in Botswana’s high schools. Introducing vocational subjects in the curricula and exposing students to the world of work will equip learners with the skills required by the labour market and promote TVET as an equivalent alternative to academic education. This €13 million EU budget support operation is complemented by technical from GIZ.
