EU Residence in Botswana Goes Solar
“I’m delighted we will start powering the Official Residence with the energy of the future,” said EU Ambassador Petra Pereyra upon inspection. “Solar power is clean, green and free, and sunny Botswana is one of the best places on Earth to produce it. This is one small step in the country’s transition away from coal-fired power and costly electricity imports”.
The EU Delegation will recover the investment by selling any surplus electricity generated back to the national grid as part of Botswana’s Solar Rooftop Programme, which also encourages commercial and industrial firms to install solar on their buildings. Botswana is on track to exceed its 2030 target to source 15% of its power from renewables.
