European Union launches call for applications for the 2025 Model EU – National Edition, in Brasília

Brasília, 25 June 2025 – The Delegation of the European Union to Brazil has opened applications for the 2025 Model EU – National Edition, which will take place in person from 25 to 27 September at the University of Brasília (UnB). The event simulates negotiations within the Council of the European Union and will bring together 27 university students from across the country to debate issues related to international politics and regional integration, in an environment that fosters dialogue, active listening, and the collective development of solutions.

This year’s central theme will be the Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter of the EU–Mercosur Agreement, with a focus on the negotiation dynamics within the Council of the EU. Participants will represent EU Member States, negotiating in Portuguese and following authentic procedures from the European decision-making process.

Applications are open from 18 June to 4 July via the online form (available here). Eligible applicants are students currently enrolled in undergraduate or stricto sensu graduate programmes, preferably in Law, International Relations, Economics, Political Science or related fields. Prior knowledge of the European Union’s functioning and proficiency in English are desirable.

In addition to the immersive experience in Brasília, the top three delegates will be awarded a study trip to Brussels in 2026, which includes visits to EU institutions and an exclusive online course on the European Union. They will also have the chance to return to Brasília for a special participation in the 2026 Model EU and a meeting with the EU Ambassador to Brazil, Marian Schuegraf. Six other participants will receive honourable mentions and access to the same online course.

“The Model EU is both a civic and diplomatic training tool that brings Brazilian youth closer to the values and mechanisms of the European Union. We are excited for another edition, which will certainly highlight young talents committed to the future of our planet,” stated Ambassador Marian Schuegraf.

The Delegation of the European Union will cover participants’ transportation, accommodation, and meals during the event.
