Cameroon: “Young artists must open up to the world, without losing themselves…”

It is with this conviction that artist Ukëry, winner of the Cameroonian Cultural Network 2026 in the Music category, shared her artistic world with H.E. Veronika Boskovic Pohar, Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union.

Ukëry, whose real name is Alexandra Rijkarde Mefoumane Lepidi, is a rising Cameroonian singer-songwriter and performing artist.
With her distinctive voice, Ukëry – who will also represent Cameroon at the upcoming Francophonie Games – is developing a musical universe shaped by encounters, heritage and modernity.

During her meeting with the Head of the EU Delegation to Cameroon, music was naturally at the heart of the conversation. But so were the causes she stands for: violence against women, which she refuses to remain silent about; her determination to stay true to her identity; and her drive to create without being confined to a single definition.

Ukëry also shared her vision of a Cameroonian culture that can evolve while remaining deeply rooted in its heritage. The conversation continued through music, with a performance of the song she will present as part of her next artistic journey.

A meaningful encounter centred on creativity, commitment and the conviction that culture can be both a space for expression and dialogue, as well as a means of passing on knowledge and heritage.
