2025: A G7 year in Canada
That’s a wrap on Canada’s G7 Presidency, and what a year it’s been.
The EU Delegation to Canada was proud to accompany across the country EU Presidents (Commission, European Council, European Parliament), Executive Vice-Presidents, Commissioners and their teams to seven G7 Ministerial meetings and the Leaders’ Summit.
Highlights from an intense and impactful year:
🔹 G7 Leaders’ Summit | Kananaskis (June 15–17)
EU Presidents António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen joined G7 Leaders to reinforce unity on Ukraine, economic resilience, and global security.

High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas represented the EU, reaffirming steadfast support for Ukraine and cooperation on global security, resilience, and supply chains.

🔹 G7 Finance | Banff (May 27–30)
EU Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis joined Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to tackle global economic challenges, holding key bilaterals including with Canada’s Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne.

🔹 G7 Parliamentary Speakers | Ottawa (September 5–6)
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola addressed with counterparts threats to democracy, polarization, and the safety of legislators.
🔹 G7 Energy & Environment | Toronto (Oct 30–31)
Commissioners Dan Jørgensen and Jessika Roswall advanced cooperation on clean energy, critical raw materials, circular economy, water resilience, and climate preparedness, reinforcing the EU–Canada Strategic Partnership of the Future.

Commissioner Magnus Brunner engaged on transnational repression, synthetic drugs, and cyber resilience, including bilateral talks with Canada’s Minister of Public Safety.
